The project was designed to raise awareness for the Earth sciences and environmental issues. The “Adopt the Planet” project divided the global surface into 64,000 hexagons.
Since 2017, NASA's crewed spaceflight program has been the Artemis program, which involves the help of U.S. commercial spaceflight companies and international partners such as ESA. The goal of this program is to land "the first woman and the next man" on the lunar south pole region by 2024.
